This years Department Christmas Party was a lot of fun. Adding to the fun of the White Elephant gift exchange, we started a new tradition of having an Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest. Many laughs were shared, including when the Bean-o began to be the hit White Elephant. Guess that's what happens when you have great mexican for dinner! Thanks Again goes to Xochitl's Mom Teresa for providing us with great food!!!!

Nanette's surprise birthday party was perfectly executed and turned out to be a big hit! A HUGE thanks to Jana, Shauna, Xochitl and her Mom, and EVERYONE who contributed time and money for the party, and everyone else for keeping such a great secret from her! We love Nanette and appreciate all that she does for each of us. Hopefully this was a great way for us to show that to her!

Scott Pederson passed away on Saturday July 18, 2009 due to a tragic drowning accident while camping with family. He gave his life to save his two sons. He will be missed more than words can say. He leaves behind a wonderful wife and three beautiful children. Funeral services are still being arranged and will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the chapel on North Bluff Street.

There are new recycling bins at DRMC. They are located on the north side of the parking lot, towards Lowes. I am not sure if that is were they are going to stay, but that is were they are right now.

It looks like we can recycle paper, glass, metal, and plastics.

The DSC Health Science Building had their open house today, so I thought I would get some pictures.
Some of the DSC Radiology students dinking around in their new classroom - Slackers !

GE Proteus room, just like DRMC, but newer version, etc.
Their SECOND GE Proteus x-ray room

They have Konica Minolta PACS system - the same that Hurricane Clinic uses.

One of their rooms has a wall bucky that will pivot out to 90 degrees.

LUCKY !!

They even scored 2 ultrasound machines from a hospital that wasn't using them anymore

They also have a venipuncture arm, and also a hand to practice venipuncture as well.

There are a couple of nice big classrooms and a darkroom as well. Nice facility and equipment.

A group of us got together for Karen's Birthday. We had a great dinner and had so much fun looking through Karen's old pictures. WOW! What a fox. You should have seen them. There was one of her on her safari in Africa. Karen has done many great things in her life and worked as an educator, owned a pharmacy, and in radiology. Karen has been such an asset to the radiology dept. Many of us have learned and continue to learn so much from her. Thanks for all you do Karen, we are so lucky to be your friends and coworkers. We love you.

I thought we all went into radiology because we didn't want to deal with the bodily fluids that nurses have to deal with? Today made us all contemplate whether that decision was wise, as we all got to deal with our own fair share of bodily fluids. We were lucky enough to experience a variety of fluids, including but not limited to: fluid from a broken catheter bag(sorry Mr. Transporter), fluid from a BE gone wrong(sorry Libby's shoes), fluid from a LARGE scalp lac(complete with chunky clots), fluid from the mouths of patients strapped to backboards, etc, etc, etc. It was a challenging day, but somehow we all survived. Oh, to be a radiology tech!

Baby Lauren is Here!

One week later, she's finally here! Stubborn baby Lauren was born Friday, April 25th at 9:11AM, weighing in at a whopping 8 lbs. 6 oz, 20 inches long. She has dark hair and is totally adorable(we knew she would be). The proud parents are Kristen and Clint Demas. We hope they're all doing well, and we can't wait to see the new baby girl.

The day was April 17, 1974. Heather Parker enters the world (probably snorting, rather than crying). Will the Planet ever be the same? I think not !

We all met at a park by Heather's house tonight and Ryan told Heather that he was taking her to dinner with their kids for her birthday. She said that she was totally surprised and had no idea that we all would be waiting to celebrate her birthday with her at the park. It was great to see so many friends have fun and eat and laugh. Thanks to all who were able to come and bring so much delicious food and drink.

We even had one of St. George's finest show up, and with some help from Brittney and Charity, they captured a muskrat.

We all hope that you had a great time Heather !! HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!

Who knew that we had yet another Rock-n-Roll star in our midst that works in Radiology. I guess instead of doing his RPA homework, he was playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band; but I guess it paid off !

It was fun, and actually aren't that bad. I think they have a show coming up, so if you can make it to one, you should; because then you can say that you knew him before he got famous.

The new PET/CT Scanner is up and running, and is pretty cool, I must say. It is at the 400 East Campus located between the MRI Suite and the Radiology Front Office. If you haven't seen it, you should go check it out sometime, or just look below at the photos !
Things like FDG-18, Decay, Half-life, Radionucleide, Robidium 82, Subsets, Hybrid Imaging, Fusion, Electron Positron Annihilation, and 511 kEv are going on over there. Einstein type stuff. Ask a Nuc tech to explain all of this mumbo jumbo !

After all you daytimers left yesterday, our department was filled with excitement. The fire alarm sounded and a code red was announced; in CT room 2. We of course thought it wasn't real, but then the smell came. Susanne suuggested a 'scratch and sniff' for this post, I'm still working on a widget that can do that;) There apparently was a real fire, well, real smoke. One of the generators had started smoking. Austin says it was pink, you'll have to ask him. Even the fire department showed up to the party to try to get rid of the awful smell.

Baby Girl Foster is Here!

Kelli's Baby Shower!

Kelli: a new mom-to-be!

A big thanks for everybody involved in putting on a great baby shower for Kelli on Jan. 15th! We all had a lot of fun and Kelli got some cute gifts that were much needed for her and Dr.Foster's up comping baby girl! (Which is due Jan. 18th) Kelli looked great and gorgeous as ever! All the treats were great, and even the strict dieters even had a "taste" to celebrate the event on Tuesday. Kelli got lots of clothes and accessories, blankets, toys, and other baby items that were so adorable. Kelli is very ready for her little girl to come. A name that is in the works is "Charly". which is the only name that her and her husband can both agree on. I am sure we all will not have to wait long to hear what they decide on. We all wish her and the baby the best!

My Turn, First I want you to know that you are all doing great. You are inspiration to each other and that is good. I also admire all you will power and determination. You are an awesome group, but I have always known that. I would like to say that I really appreciate all your hard work. I can't think of a better group of people to work with. I will try to be a good girl from now on and not bring anything but healthy treats, but on April 1st, after weigh in its party time. also if anyone gets to mean and ornery I will be forced to put sugar in front of them, I don't wish to see any withdrawals.

You guys keep up the good work, it will all be worth it after April!!!!!!!

Biggest Loser: Week 1

With today's weigh-in, the Biggest Loser Competition is officialy in full-swing! The morale of the department has been a little low, due to that lack of treats for the non-dieters, and the lack of food in general for the dieters. Nanette's life has been threatened if she doesn't bring in some yummy snacks; not once, but TWICE! She has been called a saboteur(by Jason) when she does bring anything, and has definitely been taking the brunt of all the grumpy attitudes. We really appreciate her for all the encouragement she gives us, and for the record keeping and tabulating she has been doing for the competition. Hear ye, Hear ye. We are sending out a decree for all who are interested in a G.N.O (Brian and Jason are excluded, but you can go on your monthly date by yourselves if you want. The music, the moonlight and the stars would be a perfect date atmosphere.) that we would like to go to Colbie Calliat at Tuacahn on April 4th at 8pm. The tickets are between 19.50 - 25.50. We need to know how many people actually want to go and you have to be absolutely sure you can go because we need to buy the tickets at the same time so that we can sit by each other. I thought that I would post a few pictures from the Christmas Party 3 years ago to get you all in the White Elephant mood. Our department parties are always a blast and this year Kourtney has gone to a lot of work to plan a fun party for us all. See you tonight.

It's Biggest Loser Time!

We are thinking of starting the "Biggest Loser" Competition in the department again for anyone who is interested. It has been proposed to do a couples competition this year, since that is what they are doing this season. This offer extends to everyone in Radiology and is not exclusive to x-ray.

Official Rules:
· January 2nd-Official Weigh In
· $10 initial fee
· $5 per week from lowest couple
· Each team will be drawn randomly
· After the first 5 weeks of couples competition, partnerships will be redrawn with the option
of a “white elephant” style draw, i.e. steal someone else’s partner or draw your own, and
couples competition will resume with your new partner until March 17th
· After March 17th, the top 3 couples will enter into individual competition, and the winner
will receive the entire pot of money
· Final weigh in will be April 1st
· Partners will be male/female or female/female, no male/male partnerships!

Crazy Christmas Misfortune(as told by Kourtney)

So this morning when I came down from the OR, I went into the lounge to check on the treat situation. There were some random plates of goodies on the table and a mug with pretzels in it. Now who doesn't love pretzels dipped in caramel and chocolate? So I thought, YUM! just what I need. I took a pretzel, loved it, and went on with my day. Later I was back in the lounge(yes I was in there a lot this morning!) and Brian says, "Did you hear what happened to Shelby?" He then precedes to tell the story of how someone ate the pretzels she had brought to give as a gift to someone else! Well to say the least I was horrified! I bolted from the room to find Shelby. She was in the ER and started laughing when I started apologizing for eating her present! Wait... it gets better. So Shelby then explains that she had brought the gift last night, wrapped in a bag with ribbon and tissue paper and had left it near the contrast warmer. So now I am feeling a little less humiliated because I didn't unwrap it! Then she says there was another pack of pretzels that were missing also! So yes, you may all laugh at my expense because I have been laughing about it all morning, it is quite the story!

Just a few updates on the happenings of the Radiology Department....

Today is the 6th day of the Twelve Days of Christmas, and the treats have been wonderful so far. Thanks to all those who volunteered to bring the yummy Christmas goodies.

The new lockers, located in the control room, are ready and available for your purse/fanny pack holding pleasure. Please remember that they are to be used for the day only. Subsequently, the linen cart has been moved across the hall in the alcove next to the scheduling office.

The all-lock release button in the ER Rad room has been sticking, so the tube floats when it is in place. Therefore, it is taped onto the wall by the console. We believe Walter has already informed GE of this problem. If you know that it hasn't been reported, please take the necessary steps to rectify the unfortunate situation.

Our latest addition to the department is the new computer in the ER Rad room! This will help when you need to change an order quickly before the radiologists read it. Please remember: log off of tandem to protect patient confidentiality, and NO surfing for websites that will get you a RED WALL!!!

Some other reminders:

*Please only scan one document and write the other accession numbers and number of films turned in on one paper when paxing multiple exams

*There will be no department meeting for the month of December due to the department party

*Do not forget the department Christmas party on December 20th at 6:30 at Stoneridge Clubhouse. There are maps printed on the birthday bulletin board if you would like a copy. Don't forget to bring the food if you have signed up--there are still available options if you would like to help contribute. Also, bring a white elephant gift for a FUN exchange! (Yes Keith, you can bring the blow-up doll!)

*Remember--the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

We would like to thank everyone who has helped decorate our department, especially Shaun, our personal interior designer. It looks fabulous and has helped us all get into the holiday spirit!

Today was day ONE of our 12 Days of Christmas Treats!! Yea, It was great. Nanette brought in bread and Shelby brought in butter and jam!
